Happy Construction Monday…..water conservation is one of the key elements in Earth Advantage home certification. Most of us know we can save water if we turn off the tap while brushing our teeth (as much as 3,000 gallons per year!), but did you know that there are products that will help save water when the tap is on? Faucets account for more than 15 percent of indoor household water use-more than 1 trillion gallons of water across the United States each year. In all of our Everett Custom Homes, we install water-efficient lavatory and kitchen faucets. These faucets use aerators to mix air with the flowing water, reducing water flow without sacrificing performance. By installing these efficient faucets, you can save up to 500 gallons of water per year. Plus, this saves money on your energy bill!
Showering also accounts for a large percentage of residential indoor water use, accounting for approximately 17 percent in the United States. This means more than 1.2 trillion gallons of water is consumed each year. An Everett Custom Home includes high-efficiency shower heads, achieving water savings of up to 30 percent. This is an easy fix for any home….a minimal investment for a maximum benefit!
Fun Fact: If every household in the United States installed energy-efficient bathroom sink faucets or faucet accessories, we could save more than $350 million in water utility bills and more than 60 billion gallons of water annually-enough to meet public water demand in a city the size of Miami for more than 150 days!
