Time to put on those tool belts and hardhats….it’s Construction Monday! Ever wonder what’s going on behind those walls and how we keep our homes insulated? Well, the wait is finally over. Here’s a look at what’s inside our walls, which is a blown-in insulation that has an R-23 rating (standard code is R-19) and contains at least 25% of recycled content. The R-value is the measure of a material’s ability to resist heat conduction. The greater the material’s R-value, the better it performs as an insulator and the more money you save on your energy bill. In addition, we use spray foam insulation at strategic locations throughout the home to minimize air infiltration. Standard code doesn’t require this practice and other builders typically disregard this when it comes to air leakage in a home.
Different areas of your home, such as the attic or floor, might require different thicknesses of insulation depending on your region of the country. All of our Everett homes have additional insulation in the attic and floor. Attic space insulation is R-49 (current standard is R-38) and flooring insulation is R-38 (current standard is R-30). Because of Everett’s higher standard in insulation values, these superior techniques produce our homes to be quieter, more comfortable and more energy efficient! Plus, enjoy lower energy costs every month…we love saving money for our happy homeowners!! Tune in next week for another tidbit of information on our Everett construction practices. Happy Construction Monday!
